Uses of graphite

Graphite has been used since ancient times and is also widely used in the modern world. The following are some common uses of graphite:

1. The term stationery graphite comes from Greek, meaning "writing". Therefore, the most common use of graphite is to make lead in pencils. The lead is a mixture of clay and graphite in amorphous form.

2. Lubricant Graphite is one of the main components in lubricants (such as grease, etc.). This mineral reacts with water vapor in the atmosphere and forms a film or layer on the applied surface, thereby reducing friction. Graphite is also used in automobile brakes and clutches. Because of the hydrophobicity of graphite, graphite powder is also used in paints to provide a protective coating on wood and other surfaces.

3. Refractory material Because of its high resistance and invariance to heat, graphite is a widely used refractory material. It can be used in manufacturing and contributes to the production of glass and steel and the processing of iron.

4. Nuclear reactor graphite can absorb fast-moving neutrons. As a result, it was used in reactors to stabilize nuclear reactions.

5. Battery crystalline scaly graphite is used to manufacture carbon electrodes, brushes and plates required by dry batteries and electrical industries. Interestingly, natural graphite is also processed into synthetic graphite. This type of graphite can be used in lithium-ion batteries.

6. Graphene flakes Graphite can be used to make graphene flakes. It is said that these plates are 100 times stronger than steel and 10 times lighter in weight. This derivative of graphite is also used to make light and strong sports equipment. Many people are considering future applications in the medical and aerospace fields.
